Wilhelm Lautenbach’s credit mechanics – a precursor to the current money supply debate

This article assesses the theory of credit mechanics within context current money supply debate. Credit and related approaches were developed by a group German monetary economists during 1920s-1960s. overcomes one-sided, bank-centric view creation, which is often encountered in theory. We show that influenced interplay loan creation repayment rates; relative share volume neutral debtor-to-debtor creditor-to-creditor payments; availability security; behaviour non-banks non-borrowing bank creditors. With standard textbook models now discredited, we argue more general approach to involving needs be re-established.
